Compare two PDFs

See exactly what changed between two versions of a document: every word added, removed or changed, side by side. It all happens on your device.

or drop them here

🔒 Your files stay on your device. Nothing is uploaded.

Choose both PDFs at once, or one and then the other.

How to compare PDFs

  1. Choose the older version first, then the newer one (or both at once). They open side by side in the editor.
  2. Every difference is highlighted: red for what was removed or replaced, green for what's new. Step through them, or pick one from the list.
  3. Use Swap if they're the wrong way round, and Download list to keep a list of the changes.

Words, or pictures

Text compares the words, so a paragraph that reflowed after one added word shows just that word. Visual compares the pages as pictures: for scans, signatures, stamps and layout changes. Scans are compared visually automatically.

Private by design

Contracts and their redlines are exactly what you'd rather not upload. StaplePDF compares them inside your browser; neither file leaves your device.

Questions

Can I compare a Word document with a PDF?

Save the Word document as a PDF first (File, then Save As, then PDF), then compare the two PDFs.

Can I compare scanned documents?

Yes, as pictures. To compare their words, make them searchable first with OCR PDF.
