How to sign a PDF

  1. Choose your PDF. It opens in the StaplePDF workspace with the signing tools ready.
  2. Select Signature, then draw it with your mouse or finger, type your name, or upload a photo of your signature on white paper.
  3. Click where it goes, then drag to move it or drag its corner to resize. Add the date, initials or check marks the same way.
  4. Select Done, then save the signed PDF.

Your signature stays yours

Online signing services usually upload your document and your signature to their servers. StaplePDF does everything in your browser: the document and the signature never leave your device. If you choose to keep a signature for next time, it's saved only in this browser, and you can remove it whenever you like.

Questions

Is this a legally valid electronic signature?

In many countries, including under the US ESIGN Act, a signature you add to a document yourself can be legally valid, but requirements vary by document and place. This adds a picture of your signature; it isn't a certificate-based digital signature. When in doubt, ask whoever needs the signed document what they accept.

Can I fill in the form before signing?

Yes. Type into the PDF's form fields directly, or add text anywhere with Text. See Fill PDF.

Can someone remove my signature afterwards?

It's written into the page itself, not added as a separate layer, so it can't simply be deleted in a PDF viewer.
