How to edit a PDF

  1. Choose your PDF. It opens in the StaplePDF editor, ready to edit.
  2. To change wording, select the text on the page and choose Edit text. To add something new, choose Add text, Add image or Link and click where it goes.
  3. Pick the font, size and colour in the bar above the page. Drag anything you've added to move it.
  4. Select Done, then save your edited PDF.

Everything in one place

The editor does more than change words: rotate, reorder and delete pages, add page numbers and watermarks, sign, fill in forms, redact, and compress the result. Every change can be undone, and your open documents are kept in this browser if you close the tab.

Private by design

Online PDF editors usually upload your file to edit it on their servers. StaplePDF edits it inside your browser, so it never leaves your device.

Questions

How does changing existing text work?

A PDF stores text as positioned letters, not paragraphs. StaplePDF covers the words you select and writes your new wording in their place, at the same position and size, in one of the standard fonts. It works best for short changes: a name, a date, a figure.

Can I edit a scanned PDF?

A scan is a picture, so its words can't be changed directly. You can add new text over it, or make it searchable first with OCR PDF.

Can I undo a change?

Yes: every change can be undone and redone, with Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Shift+Z.
